Hooray for Daddy- Go Phoenix!

Dear Baby Bean-

Hi there little guy!  I don't have time to write much but wanted to let you know that Daddy's team played in their first Regional Playoff game tonight and they won!  It was a nail biter of a game and I think Daddy will be the first to tell you that his team should have played MUCH better then they did, but they managed to win by 3 points.  Phew!  Now it's on to the Regional finals on Friday against Bloom Township.  If I have my facts straight, this is the first time a Lincoln-Way North basketball team has advanced to a Regional Championship, so that is very exciting (if it's true).  Either way, we are very happy for Daddy and proud of his coaching efforts this season.  Hopefully his team will play well on Friday- we wish them lots of luck!

Have a great night Bean- I'll talk to you soon!

24 Weeks and Counting...

Dear Baby Bean-

Hello there baby boy!  We have had another pretty exciting week and I'm going to do my best to catch you up on all that has happened.  You are officially 24 weeks 1 day and the time before you arrive is just slipping away.  We are so excited to meet you but, I have to admit, we have A LOT to do before you get here.  I was talking to Jess on the phone this week and catching her up on what the doctors have been saying lately.  When I told her that the doctor said that your "critical time" would be between 28 and 32 weeks, she was like, "Wow, so you could possibly have a baby in the next 6 weeks"(!) which is a very real possibility and it freaked me out a little bit.  I really don't have any strong feelings that you are going to have to arrive super early, (and we are PRAYING that you can wait until your due date in June) but we need to prepare for anything and everything.  Because of this, Operation Get Ready For Bean is commencing tomorrow.  I am following in the footsteps of the great mommy Becky Hoyle and going through every room in this house, purging along the way.  We are going to get rid of anything that is unnecessary, donate clothes, shoes, and toys to Goodwill, and basically get the house ready to move rooms around to accommodate another Terry resident.

Now, back to our week.  The early week was pretty uneventful.  I can't remember if I wrote to you last Sunday or Monday, but Monday Grandma Cindy was still here and we had so much fun running errands and going out to lunch with her.  Daddy had the day off of school, but he still had lots of basketball stuff to do.  Grandma had to leave around 4:30 and we spent the rest of the evening hanging out at home.  Tuesday we laid low during the day and Daddy had a big basketball game against Thornton Tuesday night.  Grandma Carol came over to go to the game with us and we spent the whole night cheering for Daddy's team. It was a great game, but Daddy's team ended up losing by 5 points at the very end.  It was a big bummer but the boys played very well.  It was a particularly devastating loss because it meant that Thornton secured the Conference Championship...or so we thought.  More on that later.

Wednesday was a fun day.  We got up in the morning, ate breakfast, and went to Becky and Finn's to play.  Tenley happily played with Finn, Gus, and V for the whole morning and even went potty on Finn's potty chair!  Mommy was so proud of Tenley- it was the first time she ever went potty in a big potty.  She was very serious about this task and took her sweet time until she felt like going.  You can blackmail your sister with this picture later in life- just tell me before you do it!

Thursday was a VERY fun day.  Since Daddy was going to be gone all day and all night for the third day in a row, I decided that we needed to get out of the house and do something exciting.  We went to Bellaboo's in Lake Station for the day and Tenley loved it. I can't wait to take you there, too!  She loved playing in the water room, the kitchen, and the grocery store.  At the very end of our time there, she decided to try the face painting room and loved the big mirror.  It was a great time and we will probably be heading back there very soon.

Friday was a normal day but an extremely exciting night.  We took it easy during the day so that Tenley would be up for Daddy's away basketball game.  Daddy's team played Stagg High School and it was his last regular game of the season.  The last time Daddy's team played Stagg, Mommy was in DC for Baby Cuddy's surprise shower. The game came down to a last second shot that you can hopefully see here:

When we arrived at the game, the Stagg crowd was out in full force.  Their cheering section was awesome and both teams came to play.  After 14 lead changes, Daddy's team was up by 3 with 7 seconds to go.  Stagg had the ball, inbounded it and went for a 3....and missed!  Phoenix won!  Immediately after the buzzer went off, we found out that Thornton had lost to Thornwood that evening which meant that Daddy's team had tied with Thornton as Conference Co-Champions.  It was such an exciting night and we are so proud of Daddy and his team for a great season so far.  We are hoping that this stellar win will propel his team into a great bout of tournament play.  After the game, the Stagg coach came into the locker room to congratulate Daddy and gave him the game ball.  Tenley loved playing with it and it was such a special thing for that coach to do :)

After the excitement of Friday night, the rest of our weekend has been pretty low key.  Daddy watched Tenley for me last night so I could go see the play that Laney was in (and Casey directed).  Today, Daddy took Tenley to a basketball game and then they picked us up to go to Miner Dunn for lunch.  That pretty much wiped us all out and we came straight home to take naps:

Tonight will be spent watching the Oscars (Mommy), scouting basketball games (Daddy), playing (Tenley) and kicking Mommy (You).  In all the hubbub of the weekend, we were able to take a belly pic today- here you go!

Once more thing before I go for now- after trying and trying (and trying and TRYING), Tenley went both #1 and #2 in the potty yesterday afternoon.  I know it's another blackmail picture, but it's just too cute not to share!  Love you, Bean!

A GREAT Week!

Dear Baby Bean-

Hi there lil' Bean!  How are you doing in there?  By the way you have been kicking me, I'm assuming you're doing OK.  You seem to have found and made my bladder a target early on in this pregnancy, and I thank you for not kicking me hard enough to wet myself yet.  Your sister never seemed to do that but you sure have a knack for making me realize that it may be time to empty it.  Every kick is just an awesome reminder that you are in there and that we will be seeing you in four short months!

This week has been a very fun and busy one.  This is going to be a long post because we've done so much, so I feel like I should itemize it by day again so that I keep it all straight.  When you read this you will probably find this all very mundane, but it is fun to let you know what Tenley, Daddy, and I have been up to while you've been cooking in there.  Here we go...

Monday your sister and I stayed home and cleaned the house ALL.  DAY.  LONG.  It felt good to have a clean house but by the end of the evening, I was VERY sore.  I thought I was feeling great until I laid down on the couch downstairs for a rest before giving Tenley a bath and when I stood up, I could barely walk!  Luckily that only lasted until I went to bed and I woke up Tuesday feeling good again.

Tuesday we had an awesome play date with Amber and Amethyst.  They came to our house to play around 11:00 and were with us all day.  We went to The Commander for lunch and did a little bit of shopping.  While we were at Target, your sister was so tired that she actually fell asleep in the cart- unheard of!  When we returned home, Tenley and Amethyst played with Tenley's kitchen, easel, and shopping cart while Amber and I talked.  We are so happy that we have become friends with them and Mommy is so excited for you to meet them this summer after you are born.  Here are some pictures from our fun day:

Play dates and Target are apparently rough on your sister

Hugs for Amethyst before she had to go home

Hugs for Amber too :)

Amber and Amethyst were big fans of Zoey- Zoey really loved them, too!

See?

Wednesday was a day of preparation for Grandma Cindy's visit and Valentine's Day.  Tenley and I decided that we wanted to bake Daddy cookies for his Valentine's Day present, so that took up a majority of our afternoon.  Daddy had class and basketball practice that night, so we didn't get to see him at all.  Here are some pictures from Phase 1 of Daddy's Valentine Cookie  Making Extravaganza:

Tastes pretty good, Mom!

She was pretty pleased with her craftsmanship

Ready to bake- Daddy's gonna love these!

Thursday was the big day- Valentine's Day!  As soon as Tenley woke up she opened her fun gift from Auntie Carrie, Uncle Pete, Cameron, and Ethan.  She was very excited about her "present" and has reopened it at least 10 times since then.  Once she was done opening and playing, I made us a breakfast of heart shaped pancakes and melon, and then we spent the morning working on Phase 2 of Daddy's Valentine Cookie Making Extravaganza.  That unfortunately took ALL MORNING which didn't suit Tenley, so it was very nice when it was time for lunch and a nap.  After Tenley's nap, we got cleaned up, put some finishing touches on the house, started dinner, and waited for Grandma Cindy's arrival.   We were so excited when she got here and were so happy that she had the chance to visit for FOUR WHOLE DAYS!  Daddy came home a little after Grandma Cindy got here and we had a yummy dinner of roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, crescent rolls, and a dessert that was Daddy's request. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and Daddy liked his cookies.  We got a very special treat after dinner- Tenley got to open Valentine gifts and Mommy and Daddy got to go to a movie!  By the time the movie was over and we came home, it was time to go to bed.  It was such a great evening and the best part was that Grandma Cindy was here!

Fun gifts from Auntie!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Friday was another big day.  We actually stayed home with Grandma for most of the day but had lots to do in the afternoon and evening. Tenley woke up from her nap around 3:00 and Grandma Carol was at our house by 3:30 to head out to Daddy's big game.  Grandma Carol, Grandma Cindy, Tenley, and I went to Culver's for dinner before heading to Lincoln-Way North.  It was a big night for Daddy- not only was it Senior Night, but Daddy was getting his head shaved for St. Baldrick's.  Once we got to the school, we found Daddy and watched a lady cut off ALL of his hair.  He swears he's never going to have hair again, so it will be interesting to see if he sticks to that promise.  You may never see your Daddy with hair!  Between the sophomore and varsity games was Senior night and it was fun to see all 8 of Daddy's seniors walk across the court with their parents.  The game was close a couple of times, but Daddy's team ended up winning making it a great night.

There goes Daddy's hair!

Saturday was a day we had been waiting for for a long time- Stella's Birthday Party!  We spent the morning at home and when Tenley finally went down for her nap, I went to Auntie Carrie's to put up some decorations for the party.  When I got back, Tenley was still sleeping and we ended up being a whole hour late to the party because she wouldn't wake up.  We had a lot of fun once we got there, though, and Stella was such a little doll.  She dug into the frosting on her smash cake and opened her gifts like a champ :)

Yunmy frosting!

Lots of fun gifts!

This blue frosting made Tenley's life

Today we went to church and then met Grandma Carol at Miner Dunn.  It was so good and we all left SO FULL.  When we got home, Daddy had to leave to go to school for a basketball practice, so Tenley, Grandma, and I played for a bit before laying down for a nap.  Now we are waiting for Daddy to come home with some Edwardo's pizza and then we will just hang out for the rest of the night.  We are sad that Grandma Cindy has to go home tomorrow but happy that we have the rest of the evening and a whole day tomorrow with her.

As I said last week, I made good on my promise and took a belly picture.  I am much more presentable in these pictures than I ever would have been last week, so here you are in my tummy at 23 weeks.  Take care in there, Bean, and we love you very much!

22 Weeks!

Dear Baby Bean-

Once again, it is Sunday night and I wanted to write a little bit while your sister is watching "Rocket" (Little Einsteins) before it's time to go to bed.  As of yesterday, you are 22 weeks along and kicking up a storm.  I am really starting to feel large now, and it's kind of scary because there are still 18 weeks to go...I can't imagine how my body is going to feel by week 40!  You would think that I would remember all of this from being pregnant with your sister, but I just don't remember feeling this achy this soon.  The only truly painful thing right now is that my back hurts all over- I'm hoping with a good night's sleep that will go away.  No matter how ouchey I feel, it's all worth it as long as you're still growing big and strong in there!

Not a lot has happened since all of our excitement with seeing you on Wednesday.  Thursday we stayed home most of the day and then we were able to see our friends Amy and Nora for a play date in the afternoon.  They moved to Minneapolis at the end of the summer and were back "home" visiting, so we were thrilled to be able to see them for a couple of hours.  Nora and Tenley are only a month apart and it was fun to see them play with each other.  Well, it was more like they played by each other...but it was still fun!

Friday Daddy had a big basketball game against Andrew and Daddy's team won!  His team is doing so well right now and they only have three games left before it's tournament time.  I think you're really going to like going to Daddy's games- your sister has fun running around and imitating the cheerleaders...I think Daddy will appreciate a child who is a little more into the basketball action :)

Yesterday was a relaxing day at home.  Tenley was sick with a bit of a fever, a cough, and a really stuffy nose so we took it easy and watched a movie in the morning.  She started to feel a little bit better in the afternoon, just in time for Daddy to take care of her so I could go see your cousin Casey in his school play.  He played the part of Tweedle Dee in Alice in Wonderland and did an excellent job.  I have so much fun going to see his productions.

Today we spent another day at home.  Tenley was feeling a little too under the weather to go to church, so we spent the morning playing and relaxing.  Around lunchtime, we went to Miner Dunn for cheeseburgers then went over to Grandma Carol and Grandpa Jeff's house for a little bit.  It was a very nice Sunday and, besides Tenley feeling bad, a pretty good weekend.

This week is going to be busy.  Tenley and I are going to stay home and clean the house tomorrow.  Tuesday we are hoping to have a play date with Amber and Amethyst and Daddy has to scout a basketball game.  Wednesday we will go grocery shopping and get ready for Grandma Cindy to come. Thursday is Valentine's Day and Grandma Cindy will be here in the evening- we can't wait! Friday Daddy has another big basketball game and Saturday we have Stella's first birthday party.  I can't believe that Stella is going to be 1 on Wednesday- we can't wait to celebrate with her.  Hopefully I will be able to fill you in on all of these fun things after they happen.  Until then, I love you and keep on kicking away in there- I love feeling your little feet and hands, even when they are kicking me in the bladder :)

PS- I'm sorry I don't have a belly picture for you this week- I just look too awful right now to even think about posing for a picture.  Believe me, you'll thank me one day for not taking a picture and putting it on the internet looking like I look right now!

It's a BOY!

Dear Baby Bean:

As I foreshadowed in  my last post, we have had a very exciting past two days of doctor's appointments.  We saw Bernie last night for our normal OB appointment and had our ultrasound with Dr. Losure this morning to see how you are progressing.  Both appointments went well and I'm here to tell you all about them!

Last night we went to see Bernie at 5:00.  She talked to me for a long time to make sure everything was going well and then listened to my tummy to find your heartbeat.  She found it right away and it is still going strong- it fluctuated between 148 and 143 beats per minute which was music to Mommy's ears.  She told me that I needed to take it easy on lifting things like groceries and laundry, but otherwise everything looks good and that my uterus growth is great.  I know that will probably sound weird to you when you eventually read this, but it makes Mommy excited that things are going well. :)

Today Tenley and I woke up around 7:30 and got ready to go to your ultrasound.  Grandma Carol came to our house around 9:45 and we were on the road to the hospital by 10:00.  Once we checked in, the ultrasound technician took us back to a little room and we finally got to see you!  The tech showed us all of your body parts- your little hands, feet, nose, and eyes- and all of your organs.  Your heartbeat was 138 beats per minute today and it was really neat to see your little heart fluttering in your chest.  The tech said that all of your measurements look good and that you weigh one whole pound!  The most exciting part was when she was looking around your legs and spied what we all know is the one thing that makes you a BOY!  We are so excited for Tenley to have a little brother and can't wait to meet you!

After the tech was done taking pictures, Dr. Losure came to talk to me about you.  He still has a few concerns about some things with you, so we will be going back to see him for another ultrasound in four weeks.  Mommy feels better about everything after seeing both Bernie and Dr. Losure and I am looking forward to seeing you again next month.  Until then, you just have to keep growing big and strong in there.  Here are a few pictures from your ultrasound today- I love every little piece of you, Bean!

Here is a picture of what the tech called your "beautiful spine"

Here are your perfect little feet!  I loved seeing these in person today and I can't wait to kiss them when I hold you!

This better be the only picture of your manhood that I ever see on the internet, young man!

Here is your backside :)

Last but not least, here is a picture of your little face.  I love it already!

21 Weeks and a Nice Weekend

Dear Baby Bean-

Hi there little one!  It is Sunday night and your sister and I are just hanging out on the couch playing and getting ready for her bath time.  We had a nice weekend and I wanted to tell you a little bit about it before the night gets away from me and another week starts.  I can't believe that you are 21 weeks along and we are (a little) more than half way to meeting you in a few months.  This week is busy with a midwife appointment and your anatomy scan ultrasound (hooray!) plus Daddy has two basketball games.  I'll tell you all about those things as they happen but, for now, let me tell you about our weekend.

Friday we got to go to the school where Mommy used to work to have lunch with my former coworkers.  Our friend Carol Schoen retired last year and moved to Colorado, so this is the first time we have been able to see her since she moved last July.  It was so fun catching up with everyone and although the time went fast, I was happy that we had the opportunity to see everyone.  Tenley and I went home after lunch and took a nap and then it was time to go to Daddy's basketball game.  It was an away game at Thornwood and Grandma Carol came with us.  Daddy's team won by quite a bit and that win put them at #1 in the conference.  We are so proud of Daddy and his team- the season is winding down and he draws for Regionals this coming week. Keep your fingers crossed for a good matchup, Bean!

Saturday was a pretty chill day.  Tenley woke up pretty early and Daddy had to go to basketball practice, so I decided that we should go to Ethan's basketball game at the Lincoln Center.  He only has a couple of games left and I wanted to make sure we got to see one!  Ethan did a great job and it was fun to see Auntie Carrie, Uncle Pete, Cammie, Ethan, Andrea, Jo, Auntie Carrie's mom and dad, and Grandma Carol.  After the game I treated us to McDonald's and then it was time for a nap.  Last night Daddy decided to get pizza and we spent the night playing at home.

Today was Finn's big dinosaur birthday party and it was so much fun!  Tenley and I got to the Lincoln Center around 3:00 and spent the afternoon eating fun food and hanging out with our friends.  Beth, Matt, Reagan, Betty, Mike, and Clark were there and we all watched Finn blow out his birthday candles and open his presents.  Finn had a great time and we did too!  Here are some pictures from the party:

Tenley's favorite part of any birthday party is the cake

Reagan went the more civilized route and used a fork

Presents!  Happy 2nd Birthday, Finn!

So that was our weekend.  As I said before, you are 21 weeks along as of yesterday and although Mommy slacked last week with a 20 week belly picture, we tried to make up for it this week with a few new ones.  Here they are- it sure looks like you're getting bigger in there by the looks of my stomach :)  I can't wait to see you again on the ultrasound Wednesday and to find out for sure if you are a boy or a girl. Hopefully Mommy can sleep these next few nights because I'm so excited!
