Ethan's Birthday!

Dear Baby Bean

Today was a big day for you, Tenley, and I.  We started off the morning with our last Kindermusik class.   Your sister and I have enjoyed going to "music class" so much these past 12 weeks.  It's been fun to see Tenley coming out of her shell and socializing with the other kids.  I'm so sad that this session is over, but I'm really hoping to convince your Daddy to let us do it again.  It's great for Tenley and I think that hearing the music, singing, and beats is good for you too!

Tonight was so much fun- it was Ethan's birthday party at Beggar's Pizza!  He couldn't have picked a better place to have his party- the pizza was so good and it is Tuesday which means the organist was there playing music all night.  Ethan got a lot of really cool gifts and we had fun hanging out with the family and talking.  At this time next year, you will be here to celebrate Ethan's birthday too!

You may not hear from me for a little while- the rest of our week is pretty low key before the Christmas celebrations start on Sunday.  Tenley and I are going to try to bake one more batch of cookies tomorrow and then I am going to try and make a good dinner for your Daddy and sister tomorrow night.  Thursday we are supposed to get a bunch of snow, so I think it will be a good day to stay home and clean the house.  Friday we will try to get some groceries and Saturday will be laundry and packing to leave for Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Rand's.  Sunday is when it gets busy- we have the extended Terry family Christmas at Auntie Carrie's at 2 and then Monday is Christmas Eve already!  We will head over to Grandma Carol and Grandpa Jeff's around lunchtime to celebrate with them and then we will head to Howe in the evening so we can go to church and spend Christmas with the Walter family.  This is such a special time of year, Bean, and we can't wait to share it with you next year!

So Nice to See You Again

December 10, 2012

Dear Baby Bean:

Today was am emotional day.  I went to Dr. Losure’s office for your ultrasound and it was amazing to see how much you’ve grown in there!  You went from being my little lima bean at 8 weeks 2 days to an actual baby with arms, legs, fingers, and toes at 13 weeks 2 days.  You were so active, flipping all around and putting your fingers in your mouth.  When I commented to the ultrasound technician about how much you’ve grown, she said “Yeah, it’s no longer that little bean that it probably looked like a few weeks ago, huh?” and I had to laugh because even SHE knows that you’re our little Bean!

Once the ultrasound was over, I met Dr. Losure and he gave me some information on what he was looking at in your ultrasound scans.  He said that by looking at everything it seems that you are at low risk for any genetic issues.  He did have some concerns about some other things which I am not going to go into here.  Just know that we are going to be watching you VERY closely throughout this whole pregnancy to make sure that you and Mommy are as safe as possible.  I just need you to do me a very special favor- you keep growing and fighting in there so that we can meet you in June!  We are so blessed to have you as part of our lives already and I am counting the weeks until I get to hold you in my arms and kiss your little nose.  I love you so much, Bean, and want to make sure that you are happy and safe at all times in there J

Another exciting thing that came out of our ultrasound is that the technician said that she thought she could tell if you were a he-Bean or a she-Bean.  She told me “not to paint any walls yet” but that you “looked very boy.”  We are so excited to hear that you are potentially a boy and Tenley and I went to Kohl’s and found a Little Brother onesie to wrap up and give to Daddy.  He was so excited when he unwrapped it!  We will have to wait another 7 weeks or so to see if you really are “all boy” but until then we will just be happy that you are “all healthy.”

Here are some pictures of Tenley's gift to Daddy :)

Miller Family Christmas

December 9, 2012

Dear Baby Bean:

This weekend has been quite the whirlwind!  Friday we went to Daddy’s game, Saturday we went to a funeral for Mr. Muenich and then drove to Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Rand’s house, and today was the Miller Family Christmas!  It was so fun to see all of our aunts, uncles, and cousins today.  We had a great turnout- someone said that there were around 90 people there!  It is so fun being part of such a big family- as you will see, we can’t even have Christmas at someone’s house! We have to go to Grandma Cindy’s school so that everyone can fit in one place.  There was tons of yummy food, cookies, and candy and we all came back stuffed.  I can’t wait until you get to be there next year to join in the fun.

Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day- I get to see you again!  We are having a 13 week ultrasound to see how you are doing and I am looking so forward to seeing you.  I’ll bet you look like an actual baby this time- not just my little lima bean.  I’m going to get some sleep now so that I am all ready to greet you again in the morning- sleep tight, Bean!

We Hear Your Heartbeat!

December 5, 2012

Dear Baby Bean:

Hello my sweet little baby!  It’s been a little bit since I’ve been able to write.  Your sister and I have had the stomach flu over the past week and we are finally back to our old selves again (I hope).  It was a bit of a rough weekend for your Mommy, but I was so happy to go to the doctor yesterday to make sure that even though I was sick you are still doing fine!  The best part about my appointment yesterday was that we got to hear your heartbeat for the first time!  Tenley wasn’t cooperating very well at the doctor’s office and wouldn’t let me put her down when it was time for me to lay on the table for the doctor.  So, she climbed right up on the table with me and laid right next to me while they used the Doppler to find your heartbeat.  She laid very still and, after a couple of seconds, we heard your heartbeat loud and clear!  Bernie says that your heartbeat was 165 which was pretty much what Tenley’s was all the way through her pregnancy.  We are so excited that you are growing and developing- but June seems like forever away before we can meet you!  You just take your time in there though- although we are excited to meet you, you don’t need to make any early appearances J

The rest of this week isn’t very full for us.  Today Tenley and I are going to spend the day cleaning the last of the house and maybe starting to wrap some Christmas gifts.  Tomorrow we are going to try to get to the Kindermusik makeup class that we missed because we were sick, and Friday Daddy has a big basketball game at night.  We are really looking forward to this weekend because it is the Miller Family Christmas in Howe and we get to go home and see all of our big, wonderful family- get ready for some great food, Bean!  I’ll fill you in on how the weekend goes once we get back.  Until then, keep up the good work in there and I love you so much!

Mommy's Birthday and Thanksgiving

November 22, 2012

Dear Baby Bean:

Happy Thanksgiving!  Today is a day that we give thanks for so much and I am so happy to have you to be thankful for this year on top of all the other special things in my life.  This Thanksgiving happens to be special in many ways, but one of them is that today is also my thirty-second birthday.  Your Mommy is getting OLD.  We have had a wonderful day with family I wanted to be sure to tell you all about it.

We started off the morning by taking it easy- at least Tenley and I did. Grandma and Grandpa were up early loading the car and then headed up to Great Grandma and Great Grandpa’s house so that they could get started on food prep.  Tenley and I wanted to wait for your Daddy and the dogs to get here.  We got a call around 9 that your Daddy had left and would be here soon.  We started to get ready, but an hour later he called again to say that the car had broken down and that he was going to have to find a way to get here.  Grandma Carol came to the rescue and she started on the long journey to pick him up and bring him here.  That Daddy always knows how to keep things exciting.

Meanwhile, your sister and I headed up to Great Grandma and Grandpa’s where we had a yummy (huge) meal with Grandma Cindy, Grandpa Rand, Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Walter, Terry, Marti, Adam, Lindsay, Bella, Brooke, Jon, Jess, Molly, Jeff, Mattia, Kylee, and Jadison.  It was so fun that we could all be together.  Just as we were finishing up lunch, Daddy and Grandma Carol arrived so they sat down and ate their Thanksgiving dinner, too.  I was sad that Daddy had to go through everything he did in the morning and that Grandma Carol had to spend her day driving, but it sure was nice that she was with us for Thanksgiving!

A little later on, Daddy and Grandma Carol had to leave to go back home so we said goodbye.  We spent the rest of the day playing and sleeping at Great Grandma and Great Grandpa’s house…it was a wonderful day.

I can’t believe I am 32 years old now.  I have a great husband, a beautiful daughter, and another little munchkin on the way.  I am a very lucky girl and have so much to be thankful for.  I love you, Bean- keep up the good work and I can’t wait to hear your little heartbeat when we go to the doctor on Tuesday!

Telling the Terry Family

November 11, 2012

Dear Baby Bean-

Today was such a fun day!  We had brunch with the whole Terry family for Grandma Carol and Grandpa Jeff’s wedding anniversary and we were able to tell them that you are coming to town in June!  Everyone was SO excited…but I’m getting ahead of myself.

We gathered at the Munster Center for Performing Arts and the whole family was able to make it except for Tim and Sam.  Uncle Tim was away for a debate meet, but we will get to see both of them at Christmas.  After brunch, Grandma and Grandpa started opening their gifts.  Finally, Daddy handed him an anniversary card which had these pictures of your sister (and you!) in it:

Auntie Carrie was looking over Grandpa Jeff’s shoulder as he opened the card and she knew right away what was going on.  Once Grandma Carol saw the card and told Grandpa Jeff what Tenley’s shirt said, it was clear that there would be another Terry baby coming into the mix in a few months.  We have such a wonderful family, Bean, and you are very lucky to be part of it.  Your cousins love Tenley so much and they are going to give you just as much love!

It is so nice that the Terrys know about you now.  We finally get to tell your Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Walter and the rest of the Walter family at Thanksgiving and, after that, we will wait until you are 13 or 14 weeks along to tell other people.  Everyone will be so excited- you just have to do your part and keep growing big and strong for us.  We love you so much!

PS- We also text messaged the picture of Tenley in her shirt to your Uncle Brandon, so now he and Aunt Sarah know about you too!  We won’t get to see them until Christmas and, well, I just couldn’t wait that long to give them the good news! J

Your First Pictures, Daddy's Tryouts, and Election Day

November 7, 2012

Dear Baby Bean

Yesterday was a very important day for several different reasons.  First and foremost, because it was the day that I first got to see you!  I had an ultrasound scheduled for 5:00 at St. Anthony’s, so I took Tenley to Auntie Julie’s so she could play and not have to go to the appointment with me.  I was running a little late because of the traffic, so I was a bit frazzled when I got there.  The people in the radiology department were so nice and the whole experience was wonderful.  Our ultrasound technician took a bunch of pictures and FINALLY let me see you at the end of the appointment.  You look like a perfect little lima bean right now, which is how you earned your nickname from me.  Most importantly, you have a beating heart!  Your heart was beating a million miles per hour and it was such a relief for me to see it fluttering there in your little chest.  The ultrasound technician said that you were 8 weeks and 2 days old as of yesterday which is just a couple of days younger than what I thought- I almost had it figured perfectly!  I love you so much and this opportunity to see an early picture of you was the best thing that could have happened.  We just can’t wait to meet you, to find out if you’re a little boy or a little girl, and for Tenley to have a sibling.  You just have to keep growing big and strong, keep that heart beating fast, and we will be able to see you again in mid-December when we do some more tests.

Another reason that yesterday was important was because it was the day that Daddy picked his basketball team for the year.  He was very excited and very nervous  all weekend, but after two days of tryouts he thinks he has picked the best team possible.  Tenley and I can’t wait to go to all of his games and we won’t have to wait long- the first one is in less than two weeks!  You’ll be along for the ride for all of them so I hope you enjoy the sounds of muted cheering, buzzers, and bouncing basketballs!

Last but not least, yesterday was important because it was election day.  Tenley went with me to the town hall and I voted at around 10:00 yesterday morning.  Daddy went too, but he had to go very early before work.  It is very important to vote, little baby, and it’s something we will probably talk about a lot in your life.  This was a big election because it was the one that decided who the president will be for the next few years.  After lots of votes and LOTS of news coverage, our current President Barack Obama was chosen as President for the next four years and will be the President of the United States when you are born in June.   You will probably be too young to remember his as President, but I’m just telling you so you have a heads up when you come out.  In case that’s what you’re concerned about. J

All in all, yesterday was a big day for the whole family and I am so happy that part of that excitement was getting to see you.  We have some nice pictures of you from yesterday that I will show you some day.  We are so excited to meet you and are really excited to share the news about you with the Terry family this weekend at a brunch for Grandma Carol and Grandpa Jeff’s anniversary.  They are going to be so excited!!

Here's a bit of a preview of your first portrait:

And here's Tenley looking at you for the first time:

First Midwife Appointment and Halloween

October 31, 2012

Dear Baby Bean

Yesterday was an exciting day for us!  We got to go to the midwife’s office for the first time to talk all about you and your development.  It was about an hour  appointment and Bernie, our midwife, just asked me lots of questions about the things I’ve been eating, how my pregnancy with your sister went, and answered all of my questions.  At this point you should be almost 8 weeks old, and she says that so far everything looks good.  The best part of the appointment was when she said that she was going to order an early ultrasound so that we can have our first look at you and really determine your due date.  I’m am anxiously awaiting a call from the ultrasound scheduling department today so that we can schedule our first meeting with you!  I can’t wait to see you- I think you will probably look a little like a gummy bear- but it will be such a relief to make sure that you are where you’re supposed to be and that everything looks good.

Today is Halloween and your cousin Clara came over this morning before she had to go to school.  We had a lot of fun playing with Tenley and I can’t wait until Clara and the rest of the family can know about you- they are going to be SO EXCITED!  Tenley and I are planning on taking it easy today before we get inundated with trick or treaters later.  Tenley is going to be Minnie Mouse but I don’t think she will go trick or treating this year- she’s still too little.  Next year you can wear a cute little costume with your sister and it will be so much fun!  We love you so much and we can’t wait to see you (onscreen) in a few days

A Fun, Full Weekend

October 19-21, 2012

Dear Baby Bean

We sure had a busy weekend!  Friday we went to Becky’s house to play with Finn and his friends then you, Tenley and I took a nap before dinner.  Daddy had to work at his school’s football game, so I took your sister to Beggar’s for pizza and to hear the organist play.  Beggar’s is one of Tenley’s favorite places and I bet you a million dollars that you will love it too!

Saturday was the first day that your Daddy, Tenley, and I were all home together on a weekend day in a long time, so we decided to check out a pumpkin farm to spend some time together.  We went out to Bengtson’s in Orland Park and we all had so much fun.  We can’t wait to take you next year!  They have lots of animals, hayrides, pig races, and tons of pumpkins.  We found our family the perfect pumpkin (47 pounds!) and we can’t wait to carve it later this week.

Sunday was another fun, full day.  Grandma Carol and Grandpa Jeff were babysitting Cammie and Ethan all day so they decided to take a trip to The Field Museum and invited us to go.  They picked us up around 10:00 and we arrived at The Field around 11:30.  We met Auntie Katie, Uncle Tim, Sam and Stella there and did lots of fun things like play in the play area, see the large mammals exhibit, and got our picture taken by Sue the dinosaur!  We can’t wait to take you there when you can actually see the exhibits. J  After the museum, we stopped by your Great Uncle Butch and Great Aunt Marge’s garage to visit and see all of their cars and memorabilia.  It was such a nice day with family and it was so hard not to tell them about you.  Only a couple more weeks until the whole family can know that you are along for the ride in everything we do!  We love you so much and hope you’re growing big and strong in there.  According to calculations, you are about the size of a grain of rice right now but are already starting to develop your arms, legs, and organs.  Keep on growing in there and we can’t wait to meet you!

Mommy's Day Out

October 14, 2012

Dear Baby Bean

This weekend was so much fun!  I got to hang out with some of my best friends in the world- and you were with me the whole time!  Daddy was so nice and watched Tenley so that I could go with Sara out to Oakbrook to meet Jess and Carrie for a little bit of friend time.  We went out for dinner, shopped a bit, saw a funny movie, went to dinner, and then spent the night at a hotel.  The best part was that they figured out that you were with us!  They thought it was funny that Mommy didn’t drink a coffee at Starbucks or want to eat sushi for dinner or drink Diet Coke at all.  They know me pretty well J  I know that we have to keep you a secret for awhile longer, but I can’t wait until ALL of our family and friends can know that you will be here in June.  We love you and thanks for letting me feel well so that I could have fun with my friends!

Telling Daddy

October 6, 2012

Dear Baby Bean

I am so happy that I didn’t have to wait long to tell your Daddy about you.  He came to Grandma and Grandpa’s house at 11:30 and Tenley and I were ready for him.  I put a Big Sister shirt on Tenley (Grandma had just found it for me last week in anticipation of you hopefully arriving soon) and waited to see if he would notice.  When he saw Tenley he said, “Big sister?  You’re not a big sister!” and I said “She’s going to be!” and your Daddy just stopped and looked at me and said, “You’re pregnant?  Are you kidding me?” and then gave both me and Tenley big hugs.  Your Daddy wants a big family and is so excited that you are with us!  We have decided to wait to tell the rest of the family until it’s a bit safer.  I don’t have our first doctor’s appointment until October 30, so until then (and beyond) I will be praying that you are doing well and try to do my best to help you grow big and strong.  Just know that I am grateful every day that you are with me and that I can’t wait to meet you!

PS- for a better look at your Daddy’s reaction, see below J

Surprise- It's a Baby!

October 5, 2012

Dear Baby Bean

Hi there little one!  I can’t believe you’ve been hiding in my tummy for the past couple of weeks and I just found out about you today!  Your Daddy, Tenley, and I have been wishing for you for a little while now and, well, here you are!  Today was such a special day because it started out with me finding out that you were with me.  I kind of had a feeling over the past few days that you might be there, but I had to wait until today to find out for sure.  When I woke up, something just told me to take a test and, sure enough, it was positive!

We were in kind of a unique situation because your sister and I were visiting your Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Rand so Daddy wasn’t even with us.  When I found out about you, I ran over to Grandma Cindy’s room, jumped on her bed and woke her up by saying, “Hey!  Do you want to be a Grandma again?”  She was very excited (once she figured out what was going on) and just kept saying, “I can’t believe it!”  To tell you the truth, I couldn’t believe it either!  Grandpa Rand was a little more subdued when he heard the news, but he was definitely happy.  You’ll understand what I mean once you get to know him.

It has been so hard not telling your Daddy when he has called today.  He is scheduled to come to Grandma and Grandpa’s house tomorrow and I want to tell him in person.  We will just see how it goes but I know he will be SO HAPPY to hear about you.  How am I going to keep you a secret for 8 more weeks?  I love you so much already and am so excited to welcome you to our family.

Here's some proof that your hiding in my tummy somewhere:
